The Week | app (2014)
01. Research
The Week is one of the magazine in the UK with the highest circulation in Newsstand. It was crucial to create reliable personas and avoid a backlash in redesigning the app. The trickiest part was convincing the stakeholders to make some changes which were crucial to improve UX.
02. Interviews
The UX challenge was improving readability and navigation and making the sharing options standing out more. The marketing team wanted users to engage with Daily Briefing (a free section of the app sponsored by Rolex) extensively. Also we tested the newly introduce section My Pages.
03. Sketches
Quick drawing on the board discussed with the team.
03. Wireframes
Once the interviews were completed I started working on wireframes using Omnigraffle.
04. High fidelity UI designs
When the wireframes were approved and discussed I started working on the UI designs.
05. Prototyping
I prototyped a rough version of the app with PROTO.IO
06. User Testing
We tested the prototype at Dennis HQ offices with several users who weren't involved or familiar with the current app. We also called in some existing subscribers for interviews, offering them some freebies. the questionnaires included questions about what they liked and disliked about the new app compared the old one. Once the interviews were over I went back and changed the designs accordingly.
07. Assets and Specs
Eventually it was time to cut assets for the Dev team and Spec the designs.
08. App is finally released in the Apple store
It's time to create snapshots and various assets for the Apple store release!
